Nokia G50 5G shows up at British retailers with a lower price than the Nokia X10
Back in April HMD Global unveiled the Nokia X-series with a couple of 5G-enabled mid-rangers and the Nokia G-series and more affordable LTE-only models. But there’s no hard 4G/5G divide between the G and X series, apparently, as British retailers have started listing a Nokia G50 with 5G connectivity.
LambdaTek lists two colorways, Blue and Sand, both dual SIM phones with a 4/64 GB memory configuration. They are priced £217.52 with VAT included, that converts to about €250/$300. That falls between the Nokia X10 (€310) and the Nokia G20 (€160).
MoreComputers undercuts that price a bit, £207.56 with VAT, while showing the same colorways and memory configuration. This converts to €240/$285.
There is no info on what chipset brings the 5G modem. In the case of the X10 (and even the pricier X20) it is a Snapdragon 480, the cheapest 5G chipset that Qualcomm makes. With that in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a MediaTek Dimensity inside the G50.
By the way, there’s also a rumored Nokia X50 allegedly on the way with a Snapdragon 775 and a 108 MP camera. Unsurprisingly, the X-series model will have better hardware than the G-series unit. There’s also the rugged Nokia XR20 that leaked last week, that seems to be set for a July 27 announcement.
Will we see the G50 and X50 be unveiled too? That is doubtful for now as the event seems focused only on the rugged XR20. HMD"s Product Manager teased a flagship launch for November 11 and while the G50 is no flagship, it could certainly tag alongside one.
