Nintendo announces Switch 2 will be revealed before April 2025

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa shared a few details regarding the Switch successor during the company financial call.

Furukawa announced that the Switch successor will be announced during this financial year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

The company also announced that it will be having its Nintendo Direct event next month in June, where the company will be showcasing upcoming titles for the Switch platform. However, there will be no announcements regarding the Switch successor during this event.

This announcement points towards a Q1 2025 announcement window for the new console, which lines up with the current rumors. We have known since February that Nintendo has been telling game publishers that its next console will be released during this time period.

However, release and announcement are two different things, and Nintendo was careful to use the word 'announcement' in its English tweet. It's possible that the console will be available at a later date after being announced before April.

The original Nintendo Switch launched in 2017 with the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, the same chip that first appeared in the 2015 Nvidia Tablet X1. It featured a unique hybrid design that allowed it to be used in portable mode or plugged into the dock for use as a home console. The Switch went on to become wildly successful, selling over 141 million units worldwide, making it the third largest selling console ever made.

The Switch is currently available in three models, standard, Lite, and OLED.
