New hands-on video shows off a foldable phone by Xiaomi

Foldable displays is the current trend among smartphone makers and the race is on to see who can produce and market one first. Huawei, Samsung, and Motorola have all confirmed there is something being worked on this front. Today, Xiaomi might be a new contender in the race for the foldable devce.

Reliable leaker @evleaks tweeted a short hands-on video of a foldable tablet being folded twice from its largest display mode. Both ends of the tablet folded back and you were left using only the center part of the display.

It isn’t often that @evleaks posts things with skepticism, so it’s difficult to tell if he’s posting it on purpose or to get a reaction from followers. In any case, the video does show us a couple of things that we really like.

For starters, you can clearly see the creases even before the device is folded back, which adds to its authenticity of this being an early prototype. We also really like the way the UI reacts as soon as you fold either edge of the screen back. You can tell by looking at the status bar and the navigation tabs as the device is folded.

Also, by folding the device backwards, it doesn’t technically “fold” the display. The panel wraps around back with a radius which works better with current display technology.

What do you think of this deivce? Do you think Xiaomi is actually working on this kind of device or its some kind of very well-made fake?
