Motorola Edge 40 announced: Dimensity 8020, IP68 and 50MP f/1.4 main cam

Motorola has completed its Edge 40 family with the announcement of the Edge 40. It's a capable phone in terms of specs and also quality made and pretty to look at.

The Edge 40 comes in two finishes - an acrylic in Blue, and a vegan leather option in Black or Green. The latter two weigh 171g, while the acrylic plastic is lighter at 167g. All three are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

The Motorola Edge 40

The Motorola Edge 40 relies on the new 6nm Dimensity 8020 chipset with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. You get a 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage built in.

Upfront, the Motorola Edge 40 packs a 6.55-inch 2400x1080px OLED with 144Hz refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling, and HDR10+ support. The 8-bit panel can ramp up to 1200 nits. The screen is surrounded by dual stereo speakers, tuned by Dolby Atmos.

Let's talk cameras now. The Edge 40's primary shooter has a 50MP 1/1.5-inch sensor with a wide f/1.4 optically-stabilized lens. The sensor pixel-bins 4-to-1 for 2µm resulting pixels. There's a second 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide with "Macro Vision", which is to say it has autofocus and allows for closeup photography. The Edge 40 also has an autofocusing 32MP f/2.4 selfie camera.

The Motorola Edge 40 packs a 4,400mAh battery with 68W wired charging (charger included in the box), as well as 15W wireless charging.

The Motorola Edge 40 is on sale from today in Nebula Green, Eclipse Black (both in vegan leather), and Lunar Blue (acrylic), priced at €550 for the sole 8/256GB version.
