Leak: the Sony WF-1000XM5 buds will be smaller and lighter, will have faster charging

Sony is expected to launch its next flagship TWS buds soon. There are no official details on the WF-1000XM5, but there are unofficial ones. This generation the focus seems to be on wear comfort and fast charging.

The new buds will be lighter at 5.9g, compared to the fairly hefty 7.3g buds of the XM4 generation. They will be physically smaller too, the combination of the two factors should make them much more comfortable.

The total listening time (including the carrying case) will be 24 hours, the same as the previous generation. However, the new buds will be capable of quick top-ups – 3 minutes in the case will load put in enough charge to last 1 hour of use (previously it took 5 minutes to do the same). The case itself will charge over USB-C as well as wirelessly with Qi charging.

The new buds will have improved voice pickup (unclear whether through better microphones or better processing) and will have multi-point connectivity out of the box (something that the XM4 buds got as an update).
