iQOO 8 and 8 Pro bring 120Hz OLED displays, Snapdragon 888+ and 120W charging

Speed is the calling name of the just-announced iQOO 8 series and if the BMW M Motorsport branding wasn’t evident these phones pack all the latest specs found in the smartphone world. From the flagship Snapdragon 888+ chipset to the 120Hz refresh rate displays and 120W fast charging the new iQOO flagships tick all the 2021 premium phone boxes.

The front of iQOO 8 Pro is dominated by a curved 6.76-inch Samsung E5 LTPO OLED display with 1440p resolution and a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. The panel sports 10-bit colors and was already reviewed by DisplayMate with A+ scores. The vanilla iQOO 8 dials back to a 6.56 AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution and the same speedy 120Hz refresh rate.

Going around the back we find a 50MP Sony IMX 766 with 23mm equivalent 7P freeform lens which is the same sensor found in the Oppo Find X3 Pro and OnePlus Nord 2. The main shooter gets 5-axis gimbal stabilization just like on recent vivo X-series flagships.

The accompanying modules include a 48MP ultrawide snapper and 16MP portrait cam. The sensors on the vanilla iQOO 8 are less impressive with a 48MP Sony IMX598 primary module next to a 13MP ultrawide snapper and 13MP portrait cam.

iQOO 8 has a 4,350 mAh battery which should top up fully in just 18 minutes with the 120W charger. The 8 Pro brings a slightly larger 4,500 mAh cell and also brings support for 50W wireless charging to the mix. The software side on both phones is covered by OriginOS on top of Android 11.
