iPhone 16 cases show rumored vertical camera bump
A few days ago we saw the first purported cases for the iPhone 16 Pro leaked, showing the rumored Capture button on the side, and today the non-Pro models get the same treatment. That is to say, we have a new case leak, and it shows two cases supposedly meant for the vanilla models - the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
These confirm the oft-rumored change of design for the camera island of the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. As you can see, the two sensors will no longer be arranged diagonally inside a squircle-ish shape.
This year they will be one below the other in a vertical camera bump, with the LED flash array centered to the right of said bump. The latest prototypes for the non-Pro iPhone 16 models have two separate rings for the two cameras, housed in a pill-shaped raised surface.
This makes it seem like Apple took some inspiration from the iPhone X, design-wise. But the point of the rearrangement is for the two handsets launching this fall to be able to support spatial video recording.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are also said to borrow the Action Button from the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the pressure-sensitive Capture button that is also rumored for the iPhone 16 Pro.
It's still rather early in the iPhone design cycle so things could change somewhat before the expected September release of these phones, do keep that in mind.
