iPad Pro is the best selling iPad
Sometimes intuitive logic just doesn't work. Case in point: you might be inclined to assume that the cheapest iPad is the best selling iPad. But no. It's actually the opposite.
The best selling iPad is the iPad Pro, according to a new report from CIRP today. In the second quarter of this year (April to June), iPad Pro sales represented 43% of total iPad sales, leading the way.
In second place, as you can see, was the vanilla iPad with 35% of the pie, followed by the iPad Air with 12% and iPad mini with 10%. Compared to Q2 2023, the iPad Pro's piece of the pie has grown by 5%, the vanilla iPad's remained stagnant, while the iPad Air and iPad mini shares both declined to make room for even more iPad Pro sales.
Now, there is a pretty obvious caveat here. The new iPad Pro models launched in May, right in the middle of Q2, and that obviously had an impact on these numbers. Then again, new iPad Air models also launched at the same time, and yet no one seems to want those.
CIRP expects market share stabilization for the iPads to occur within one or two more quarters, which is when we'll find out more definitively if the iPad Pro jump was just a limited-time occurrence based on the launch time frame of the newest generation.
