Introducing a faster way to compare the battery endurance of phones

Three years ago we adopted an automated system to test battery life on phones, it provides accurate, repeatable results. These have been an integral part of our reviews since, but now we’ve come up with a way to add some context to those results.

Is 77 hours Endurance rating good? What about 10 hours of web browsing? How does a phone compare against its market rivals? The answers to those questions lie in our new widget that helps compare battery stats.

Our new battery endurance widget: as seen on desktop and mobile • it supports dark mode too

You’ll find it just below the usual battery score card of the phone being reviewed. There you’ll see the key numbers – battery capacity and Endurance rating, plus a breakdown of our three main tests (calls, web browsing and video playback).

We’ll preload this widget with a couple of direct competitors to the phone to put things into perspective. If you don’t see the model you’re interested in, just hit the “Add to comparison” button and you can search through all phones we’ve ever ran a battery test on.

Here is the live widget so you can try it out:

There is quite a few of them – you can see the full list in this table. But that’s rather long and can be hard to navigate, the new widget allows you to concentrate only on the phones you care about. And note that once add a few models to the list, you can copy the URL and share it with others – they’ll see the same models.

We just launched this feature this week, so if you run into any issues we’d appreciate your feedback.
