Instagram announces Edits, its CapCut rival
TikTok wasn’t the only high-profile app banned in the US recently, as fellow ByteDance video editing app CapCut also went dark. Meta wasted no time capitalizing on the situation and announced its own free video editor for creators called Edits.
The app is currently on pre-order in the US App Store and is expected to go live next month. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also confirmed that an Android version is “coming soon”.
Edits allows users to capture and edit footage for vertical-style videos, which can then be posted on any platform. If you choose to post on Instagram, the app will provide live video performance insights like viewer engagement thanks to its integration with Instagram Reels.
Edits is also getting a dedicated inspiration tab and all of the standard tools found in CapCut, including green screen, video overlays, caption generation and voiceovers. You"ll be able to use the app"s built-in AI animation feature to bring images to life.
Edits also features camera settings for resolution, framerate, dynamic range, flash and zoom. The app also allows creators to collaborate and share video drafts.
