Huawei announced a pair of new tablets today with the MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) and MatePad Air (2024). The Pro variant slots in as the highest-end tablet in Huawei’s portfolio and features a 12.2-inch dual-layer OLED display while the Air gets a 12-inch IPS LCD and comes in four fun colors.
MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) and MatePad Air (2024)
Despite the naming, MatePad Pro 12.2 is thinner (5.5mm) and lighter (508 grams) than its Air counterpart which is no stout at 5.9mm and 555 grams.
The display on the Pro tablet is also a killer feature. Huawei added two OLED layers similar to the new iPad Pro models and their Tandem OLED which allows the MatePad Pro 12.2 to crank out up to 2,000 nits peak brightness. The 12.2-inch panel features a 1,840 x 2,800px resolution, a 144Hz, 3:2 aspect ratio. Huawei claims its dual-layer OLED can last three times longer than regular OLED displays and should offer 33% better power consumption.
MatePad Air gets a 12-inch IPS LCD with the same resolution, refresh rate, and aspect ratio as the Pro model. It supports up to 1,000 nits peak brightness. Both tablets also support stylus input via Huawei’s M-Pencil stylus.
Huawei did not reveal the chipsets powering the new tablets but the Pro model is presumed to feature a modified version of the Kirin 9010 from the Pura 70 series. MatePad Air gets 8GB/12GB RAM and 256/512GB storage while the Pro can be configured with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.
Both tablets feature 13MP (main) + 8MP (ultrawide) rear cameras as well as 16MP front-facing cam on the Pro and an 8MP shooter on the Air. The software side is covered by HarmonyOS 4.2. They also feature 10,100 mAh battery with 66W charging on the Air and 100W charging on the Pro.
