HomeBREWed HTC Smart announced, nothing to rave about
HTC have just added another name to their smarphone lineup. The HTC Smart is their first GSM handset to run on the Brew platform but judging from its specs, you shouldn"t expect a best debut award. This is the HTC handset with the most modest specs sheet currently available so it should be more of a mass-market touchscreen than a full-featured smartphone.
HTC Smart (previously leaked as HTC Touch.B) has the company"s proprietary Sense UI preinstalled on top of the Brew platform and will run on a 300 MHz CPU. The RAM memory is 256 MB, while the display measures 2.8" in diagonal and sports QVGA resolution.

The good news is that HTC Smart comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support to make it capable of worldwide roaming and packs 3G with 3.6 Mbps HSDPA. It also sports Bluetooth and USB connectivity and a 3.5mm audio jack. The built-in fixed-focus camera is capable of producing 3 MP images and there is a microSD card slot onboard.
There is no information about the planned availability or the pricing of the HTC Smart just yet but it should be rather easy on the wallet.
We are just wondering what is HTC doing reviving Brew platform. It"s not like there aren"t enough mobile platforms out there and we don"t think introducing another one to the mass market is exactly what the world needed right now. But what d we know - Samsung are yet to show their Bada OS.
Update January 8: Reportedly, the HTC Smart will hit the market in May and will cost 200 euros.
