Here's how many iPhones and iPads are running iOS 17 and iPadOS 17
Apple unveiled iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 yesterday, but they"re only going to be released to the masses sometime this fall (before that you can look forward to a public beta program commencing next month).
In the meantime, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are still where it"s at, so you may have been wondering how many iPhones and iPads are currently running what are still the latest versions of the OSes. While we can"t give you exact numbers of devices, we can now give you percentages thanks to Apple releasing the numbers valid as of June 9.
So, 77% of all active iPhones are running iOS 17, which is less than the 81% of iPhones that were running iOS 16 as of May 30 last year. 68% of all active iPads are running iPadOS 17, and that is also lower than the 71% number valid for iPadOS 16 in May of last year.
When it comes to devices introduced in the last four years, 86% of those iPhones and 77% of those iPads were on iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 as of June 9. So clearly the last generation of OS releases hasn"t quite been as successful for Apple, adoption-wise, compared to the previous ones. Now it"s time for the AI-infused iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 to shine - we"ll tell you how they did around this time next year.
