HBO Max and Discovery+ merge into Max, launching in US on May 23

2023-04-13

As announced last August, HBO Max and Discovery+ finally completed their merger into a unified streaming service called Max. The new service will now include all content from HBO Max and Discovery+ catalogs and will be available from May 23 in the US with three pricing tiers. Max is also expected to launch in Latin America later this fall while Europe, Asia and other regions will get the updated service in 2024.

In the US, the $9.99/month ($99.99/year) Max Ad Lite tier brings up to two 1080p concurrent streams and no offline downloads. The cheapest plan is ad supported. The $15.99/month ($149.99/year) Max Ad Free plan brings the same two 1080p concurrent streams and the added benefit of 30 offline downloads. The $19.99/month ($199.99/year) Max Ultimate plan supports up to four 4K streams with Dolby Atmos sound and 100 offline downloads.

Current HBO Max users will see their profiles, billing information and watch history automatically migrated to the new service. Discovery Plus will continue to be offered as a standalone service for $4.99/month for the ad-supported plan and $6.99/month for the ad-free version.
