Gurman: Apple is working on a new iMac with an M3 chip, a 32" iMac planned for 2024/2025
Appleâs iMac is fairly popular because it offers a clean all-in-one setup for desk workers that donât need the high-end performance of a Mac Pro. However, there is currently only one model and it is already getting long in the tooth â the 24â iMac from 2021 that is powered by the original M1.
Bloombergâs Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on a more powerful version, one that will use the upcoming Apple M3 chip (3nm instead of 5nm like current M1 and M2 chips). That one will still be the same size, however.
Cupertino is also developing a larger 32â iMac, according to Gurman. This will be a high-end offering similar to the Apple Pro Display XDR, which has a 32â IPS LCD panel, 6K resolution (16:9) and 10-bit colors. For comparison, the current 24â iMac has a 24â 4.5K display (16:9), again with 10-bit colors.
The 32â iMac will not be available anytime soon, however, as the design process is only now getting started. The current prediction is that it will be unveiled in late 2024 or even in 2025. The 24â M3 model should arrive early next year.
There used to be small 21.5â iMacs too, by the way, but thereâs no word on Apple going below 24â with the new models.
