Google Pixel 9 Pro XL specs leak, AI feature demoed
Pixel 9 phones are everywhere these days except where they are supposed to be: under wraps. We’ve had almost daily leaks and the latest is fairly detailed list of specs for the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.
As we’ve heard before, the 9-series will break from tradition and come out with the current Android 14 out of the box instead of introducing the next version. This is likely a side effect of pulling the launch forward (the Pixel 8 phones came out in November). The 9-series phones will receive 7 years of Feature Drops, just like the 8-series.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL (as well as the vanilla Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro) will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset paired with the Titan M2 security chip. The Pro XL will have 16GB of RAM and 128GB storage as base, storage options will go up to 1TB. The base price will be $1,100. The 256GB model will be $1,200, but it looks like pre-orders will have a free storage upgrade to 512GB.
The XL phone is named for its 6.8” display, an OLED panel with 1,344 x 2,992px resolution and up to 3,000 nits of brightness (note: some earlier leaks suggested a 6.73” diagonal and lower brightness). The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Punch holed into it will be a 42MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens.
On the rear, a 50MP wide camera with an f/1.68 lens will be joined by a 48MP 5x periscope (f/2.8) and a 48MP ultra wide (123°, f/1.7). Based on a previous leak, the main camera will be a Samsung GNK 1/1.31” sensor and it will have OIS. The ultra wide module will use the Sony IMX585 (1/2.51”). These two cameras will be featured on all three Pixel 9 models. Exclusive to the Pro and Pro XL will be the tele module using the same IMX858 sensor plus OIS. Google really seems to love this sensor, since it will use it (with an AF lens) for the selfie module too. Note that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will use a different camera setup.
There’s no word on the battery in charging in this leak, but a previous one detailed a capacity of 5,060mAh and 45W wired charging (wireless speed TBD).
Naturally, the phone will feature Gemini AI-powered functions. The Pixel Studio will use AI to create images. Reimagine will transform an object in a photo into something else, below is a demo of a road turning into a river. There will be an AI-powered Weather app that will provide summaries and outfit tips, plus Screenshot Search, which will dig through your image gallery for a particular screenshot based on a natural language prompt.

Finally, in case you went 24 hours without seeing newly leaked images of a Pixel phone, here are some shots of the Pixel 9 Pro (not XL).
Google will officially unveil the Pixel 9 series, including the second-generation Fold, on August 13.
