Deals: Xiaomi 14 Ultra arrives, Samsung Galaxy A55 and A35 go on pre-order
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is an impressive camera phone – Xiaomi even hired pros to shoot a film on it. It features a 50MP 1”-type main sensor, 50MP 75mm tele and 50MP ultra wide (with AF), plus a 32MP selfie camera with a wide 22mm lens. The rest of the phone is equally impressive with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 6.73” QHD+ LTPO 120Hz display with 12-bit colors and a 5,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 80W wireless charging. It’s technically still on pre-order, but shipping starts on Monday.
The Xiaomi 14 is already available, Amazon offers a modest €60 discount. It’s smaller but not small with a 6.36” 1200p LTPO display (120Hz, 12-bit colors). It too runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and has a triple 50MP camera – a smaller but not small 1/1.31” sensor in the main, 75mm tele lens and 115° lens (no AF) on the ultra wide). The 4,610mAh battery does 90W charging over a wire and 50W wirelessly.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy A55 and A35 are both on pre-order, shipping will start in a couple of weeks (March 29). Both have 6.6” FHD+ 120Hz displays, 5,000mAh batteries with 25W wired-only charging and 50MP main cameras.
However, the Galaxy A55 stands out with an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass front and back (Victus+ on the front). And it has the new Exynos 1480, the first time an AMD GPU has been in a mid-range Android. Plus, the 12MP ultra wide is slightly better.
The Samsung Galaxy A35 has a plastic chassis and back and uses the older Exynos 1380 (from the A54 last year). Note that the base model here has 6GB of RAM, you will need to get the 256GB version if you want 8GB RAM. Note that both phones have microSD slots and IP67 dust and water resistance. Neither has a headphone jack.
Before you settle on either Galaxy A, have a look at the Nothing Phone (2a). It has a 6.7” display with 10-bit colors (FHD+ 120Hz) and a Dimensity 7200 chipset. The 50MP main camera on this one is joined by a 50MP ultra wide (114°) and you get a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging this time.
The PlayStation 5 slim is smaller and lighter than the original. And now the disc version is €100 cheaper than its regular price.
