Bungie seems to be working on a Destiny game for Android and iOS
Bungie reportedly wants to grab a piece of the lucrative mobile gaming market pie with a Destiny game for Android and iOS. This hasnât been confirmed officially, but multiple related clues point to the same conclusion.
Bungie will be partnering with NetEase Games for the project. CEO Pete Parsons said that NetEase has âa significant amount of experience in mobile we donât haveâ. This comes after reports that Bungie is looking into building its own mobile engine.
Job postings reveal that the company is working on an âunannounced FPS mobile gameâ. This appears to be a new game rather than a mobile port of Destiny 2, the companyâs current flagship. And some insiders claim that it has been in development for 2 years.
Some of you may not have heard of NetEase, but you almost certainly have heard about its games â it co-developed Diablo: Immortal with Blizzard, a game that has been in the headlines quite often recently (usually not with a positive spin).
By the way, Bungie is apparently also working on expanding the Destiny franchise into TV and film. Letâs just hope that the end result of those efforts is better than the new Halo series. Admittedly, 343 Industries is the one to blame for that one, which was handed the reins of the franchise.
Bungie has been languishing under Microsoftâs ownership recently, but earlier this year it was announced that Sony Interactive Entertainment has acquired the studio for a cool $3.6 billion.
