Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max leaks in renders showing no notch and no camera bump

Next week, on September 14 to be precise, Apple is holding its grand unveiling event for the oft-leaked iPhone 13 family. Despite the negative connotations in some places, countless leaks have "confirmed" (as much as any leak can) that the company will in fact be using the number 13.

That means next year we're getting the iPhone 14 series, and today the first renders of the iPhone 14 Pro Max have been outed. We're not kidding, and that's not a typo. It's a strange world we're living in, for sure.

As you can see, the design isn't overall a huge departure from what Apple's been doing lately, but there are two rather shocking elements, and both are things that are 'missing'. We're talking about the 'trademark' iPhone notch, which is completely gone and now replaced by a single center-mounted hole punch selfie camera, and also about the fact that the cameras on the rear are flush with the rest of the phone's back - there's no camera bump, hump, island, whatever you want to call it, it's gone.

The phone doesn't look overly thick, though, so assuming this incredibly early leak is spot-on, that's quite the engineering feat we assume - to have flush cameras like that isn't easy considering how much 'inside space' they need.

Regarding the notch disappearing, apparently this doesn't mean Face ID is gone too. The source claims the rest of the sensors for that will be hidden under the display - sort of like the under-display selfie cams we're starting to see in the Android world. That doesn't sound incredibly likely, but it is very early still in this phone's development cycle, so things could still change.

Otherwise, what we see is a metal frame, unsurprisingly, with antenna bands all over. However, this time it's said to be titanium (and that was rumored back in July, actually). The design is highly reminiscent of that of the iPhone 4, with the round volume buttons and all, so fans of that will definitely rejoice. On the other hand, the port at the bottom is still Lightning, so fans of USB-C have been shunned yet again.

The renders are not actually leaked from Apple themselves, they're instead created by an artist based on schematics and information provided by unnamed sources. Note that the colors aren't finalized yet, and also that no details about what's inside the iPhone 14 Pro Max have been outed at this time, but a past rumor talked about it having a 6.7-inch screen, and a 48 MP main camera (outputting 12 MP pixel binned images), with 8K video capture support.

It kind of goes without saying that you should take all of this with a pinch of salt, considering the fact that we're about one year removed from the actual official introduction of this leaked model.
