Apple Pencil Pro is coming according to Apple's Japan website
In less than 24 hours, Apple is holding an event during which it will finally unveil new iPads - a new generation of iPad Pro in two sizes with OLED screens for the first time, and a new generation of iPad Air that will also come in two sizes for the first time. But that's not all - a new Apple Pencil stylus has also been rumored and leaked extensively in recent weeks, so this should be announced as well.
Today Apple's website for Japan has possibly spilled the beans on its name - it will apparently be called Apple Pencil Pro. The name is embedded in the website's HTML code.
Right now Apple is offering the Apple Pencil 1st generation, the Apple Pencil 2nd generation, and the Apple Pencil USB-C. We assumed the new stylus would be called Apple Pencil 3rd generation, but apparently not - Apple branding it as Pencil Pro strongly implies most, if not all the previous-gen Pencils will remain on sale.
Calling the next stylus Pencil Pro makes sense. After all, it's been rumored to have haptic feedback, a new squeeze gesture, and even support for Apple's Vision Pro headset. That's a feature set that puts it clearly above all previous generations.
So while the mention of Apple Pencil Pro on Apple's Japan website might be a mistranslation, we wouldn't at all be surprised if Apple Pencil Pro does end up being its official name. And if so, Apple being Apple, it has to be more expensive than the others, otherwise what's the point?
Anyway, we'll find out for sure in just a few hours, so stay tuned for our coverage of Apple's event which starts on May 7 at 7 AM Pacific, which is 10 AM Eastern, 3 PM in London, 4 PM in Central Europe, 5 PM in Eastern Europe, 7:30 PM in India, and 10 PM in China.
