Apple dominated the best-selling smartphones list of 2024
2024 was another milestone year for Apple as Cupertino dominated global smartphone shipments. Per the latest Canalys sell-in estimates, Apple had seven of the top-ten most shipped phones of 2024 with the iPhone 15 crowned as the leading device.
Samsung was the only other brand featured in the top-ten chart, with its Galaxy A15, A15 5G and S24 Ultra making the cut.
The iPhone 15 earned an estimated 3% of the 1.22 billion smartphones shipped in 2024. Based on that number, Apple shipped 36.6 million units of its previous-gen base iPhone last year. The iPhone 16 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max were the second and third most shipped phones of 2024.
Samsung managed to sneak into the top-five rankings with the Galaxy A15 coming in fourth place, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16. The Galaxy A15 5G slid in eighth place while the S24 Ultra came in ninth.
The last spot in the top ten was reserved for the three-year-old iPhone 13, which accounted for 1.5% of total global smartphone shipments or 18.3 million units.
The other noticeable change compared to last year’s list is that five out of the top-ten devices were flagships while last year’s list was four out of ten. Canalys suggests that buyers in the premium segment are willing to opt for the top-of-the-line devices– i.e. the Pro and Pro Max models for Apple and the Ultra for the Galaxy S-series.
