Apple and Qualcomm might be entangled in lawsuits and jeopardizing their relations, but the Cupertino company is reportedly looking to drop Intel as a chip manufacturer as well. Intel executives said Apple was expected to be the key mobile customer of their new component. Although the plans include 2019 and 2020 devices, Intel will still supply the main bulk of chips for this year’s iPhones.

Although 5G chips in smartphones will be available in 2019, network adaptation is a bit slower, so large-scale rollout of gigabit speeds is expected in 2020. That is when Apple will most likely launch a 5G iPhone that will also support the new Wi-Fi standard called WiGig (802.11ad).
