Apple Design Awards 2023 winners announced

The annual Apple Design Awards celebrates the 12 best-in-class apps and games on the App Store across 6 categories ranging from inclusivity to interaction and innovation. Here are the winners for this year.

Inclusivity

App: Universe — Website Builder

Universe is a simple and easy-to-use website builder that helps users in creating their own websites. There are numerous customization options with the ability to add an online storefront, community page or a personal website. The app supports Dynamic Type and VoiceOver for users with disabilities.

Apple Arcade title stitch. is the winner for the best game in the inclusivity category. It brings the calming and meditative art of embroidery in a game format with progressively more difficult designs. The game supports multiple languages as well as accessibility options for users with color blindness, low vision and motion sensitivities.

Delight and Fun

App: Duolingo

The established language learning app is this year’s winner in the Delight and Fun category thanks to its expansive gamified approach to language learning that help users stay engaged.

Duolingo and Afterplace

Game: Afterplace

Afterplace is a role-playing indie game with intuitive one-hand controls, a vintage look and a deep storyline. The title offers fun surprises and plenty of hidden rewards for players to discover.

Interaction

App: Flighty

Flighty offers detailed flight tracking, airport navigation and delay forecasting for travelers. It also keeps a tab on your flight miles and brings neatly laid out widgets, Siri shortcuts and live activities to help travelers stay on track during their next journey.

Flighty and Railbound

Game: Railbound

Railbound puts you in control of an expansive array of train journeys as you get to control track layouts and their directions. The game offers little insight on how you’re supposed to progress through levels leaving you engulfed for hours at a time.

Social Impact

App: Headspace

Headspace is the winning app for the social impact category. It offers users easy-to-follow instructions for meditation, sleep improvement and ways to improve concentration and reduce the stresses of daily life.

Headspace and Endling

Game: Endling

Endling is a side-scroller eco-conscious adventure where you take control of a fox mother and her cubs in an environment riddled by pollution and human activity. The game shows the true nature of human activity on nature through the eyes of the wild animal with at touching storyline and powerful message.

Visuals and Graphics

App: Any Distance

Any Distance is a workout tracking app with a deeper focus on design and sharing your workout routes through dynamic graphics. It offers a competitive element with collectible medals.

Any Distance and Resident Evil Village

Game: Resident Evil Village

Capcom’s legendary Resident Evil franchise finally came to the Mac last and offered some of the most realistic graphics to grace the Mac gaming sphere to this date.

Innovation

App: SwingVision: A.I. Tennis App

SwingVision uses AI to serve as a tennis coach, helping you perfect all aspects of your game from your serve to your backhand. It uses video tracking to asses your movements and offers tips on how to improve your game.

Game: Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap is a turn-based card game with clever visuals and animations alongside responsive haptics.
