MediaTek announces Dimensity 7200: its first 4nm midrange chipset

2023-02-28

MediaTek has announced the latest addition to its chipset lineup dubbed Dimensity 7200. It’s based on the same 2nd Gen TSMC 4nm process as the high-end Dimensity 9200 and features 5G support, game optimizations, and high battery efficiency.

The octa-core CPU has two ARM Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at up to 2.8GHz, and six Cortex-A510 efficiency cores. In raw performance, the Dimensity 7200 scores just above Snapdragon 7 Gen1 in Geekbench results, as per MediaTek.

The graphics unit is a quad-core ARM Mali G610 that scores between 100-120fps on the Manhattan GFX benchmark according to the company"s internal testing. Displays of up to 144Hz refresh rate are supported as long as they don"t exceed Full HD+ resolution.

The Dimensity 7200 is outfitted with MediaTek’s Imagiq 765 and a 14-bit HDR-ISP that can support main cameras of up to 200MP. It can also capture 4K HDR video and supports dual video capture at 1080P resolution while using all-pixel autofocus. For low-light, the chipset uses motion-compensated noise reduction.

The chipset comes with MediaTek’s APU (AI Processing Unit) that enhances the battery consumption, and helps with computational photography.

For gaming, the Dimensity 7200 comes with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 5.0 that uses AI-based Variable Rate Shading (VRS) for power saving.

The chipset supports sub-6GHz 5G with 2CC Carrier Aggregation and theoretical download speeds of up to 4.7Gpbs. It also enables Dual 5G SIM with dual VoNR. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are part of the package too.

Dimensity 7200 supports RAM speeds of up to 6400Mbps and UFS 3.1 storage.

Expect to see devices with the Dimensity 7200 arriving to China sometime in Q1 of 2023.
