Apple overhauls MacBook Air, MacBook Pro also gets to taste the M2

During its annual World Wide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled its overhauled MacBook Air powered by the newly announced M2 chip. It brings a completely new design, Magsafe charging and exemplary battery life. Meanwhile, the 13-inch MacBook Pro also got to taste the M2 chip.

The new MacBook Air comes with a flatter design and looks far sleeker at a thickness of 11mm and weighing 2.7 pounds (1.22kg). The laptop remains fanless and comes with a notched 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits of brightness and 1 billion colors. Plus, the web camera has been updated to 1080p.

The MacBook Air gets Magic Keyboard with a larger function key row, and now has support for MagSafe charging. Alongside that you get two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm combined audio jack.

Battery life is rated for 18 hours of video playback. The new MacBook Air also has a newly designed quad-speaker system integrated into the frame, which should be a major step forward over the previous design.

The M2 MacBook Air will be available in space gray, silver, midnight blue, and starlight gold and comes with a matching MagSafe charging cable. It is also updated to support Fast Charging with the 67W USB-C adapter.

It will be available starting in July for $1,199 and can be configured with up to 2TB of SSD storage and up to 24GB of memory. Meanwhile, the M1 MacBook Air will remain available starting at $999.

Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro 13-inch remains unchanged beyond the new chipset with its thick bezel display and Apple’s keyboard with Touch Bar. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 starts at $1,299.
